What are the key proposed changes to paternity leave?
- Paternity leave will increase from 5 to 20 working days with full salary. This will apply whenever an employee has a child which has been born or adopted.
- It will be possible to extend paternity leave for up to an additional 30 days where an employee has experienced complications during childbirth, which has affected the mother’s or child’s health.
So, what should employers do now?
Employers should familiarise themselves with the proposed changes to paternity leave and, if the Bill is approved by the Senate, ensure they are compliant once these come into effect.
